It’s the most commonly required admission test for Graduate school. The GRE exam assesses your critical, analytical writing, verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning skills. Some schools may also require you to take one or more GRE subject tests. The purpose of taking GRE exam is to decide whether you have right knowledge of the program of Graduate Schools.
The GRE test changed on August 2011.Before it was a computer based test and now it is a online test. The test is divided into 3 sections. First section is Analytical writing, Verbal reasoning and Quant reasoning. At the start of the test Analytical writing will always appears first. After that the other two sections Verbal and Quantitative may appear in any order and may also include unscored and research sections with questions that can be used in future tests also. Your answers on these section won’t count into your score, as you may not know which section is legal. So you need to attempt every section as it counts. The test is of 340 marks.170 for verbal and 170 for quant. Analytical writing section scores range from 0 to 6 bands. The Analytical writing section is the first section of the exam, followed by a 10minute break. After the break, there are 6 sections: two verbal, two quant, an unscored section, and a research section. The research section is always the last section, while the other sections can appear in any order.
